Donation Model

Jatalo’s model is very simple. For every backpack that is sold, Jatalo will donate a year’s worth of textbooks to a child in need. For every bracelet that is sold, Jatalo will donate a textbook to a child in need. This form of support is often more than enough to send a child to school. Children in most communities are required to purchase copies of textbooks for class, which can be financially impossible for underprivileged families. Jatalo steps in by purchasing books for these children, effectively removing any barriers to the pursuit of an education.

Jatalo operates on a micro level by working directly with schools and communities that have students facing this type of predicament. Rather than let the funds exchange hands through an intermediary nonprofit organization, Jatalo ensures that every penny of the allocated monies goes toward the support of children that need help.

Children apply for Jatalo Scholarships directly at their local school or are nominated by classroom teachers. Based on demonstrated financial need as well as academic interest, a selection of students is made, and these children receive Jatalo Scholarships (which translate to a given student’s corresponding textbooks) for the given funding phase. Other students may resubmit applications during any subsequent funding phase. Through this model, children will naturally encourage other kids out of school to pursue an education with the support of Jatalo Scholarships.

The significance of our model is its effectiveness and scalability. The primary reason that children do not pursue an education is that they lack the means to do so. These children are often barred from active roles in society and are forced to continue a menial lifestyle, a cycle that continues generation after generation. With an education, however, we can help these kids emerge from this cycle and pursue their dreams. The effect of your purchases cannot be overstated: you can truly alter the course of a child’s life by providing an education.

By working directly with schools, Jatalo is able to identify the specific material needs of each sponsored student. This way, individual scholarships are highly specific, enabling Jatalo to cut costs and expand to other regions.
